To say that the month of June 2022 was a busy month would be an understatement. The first weekend began with breakfast with a cherished college friend, followed by a trip to San Francisco for two book signing events and a two school reunion events at St. Ignatius College Prep. The second weekend of June began with lunch and a doctor appointment with my mother on Friday and a family lunch with my kids and grandkids on Saturday at the Garret Station in Los Gatos for a belated celebration of my birthday.
The third week of June began with another trip to The City for lunch with an elementary school classmate, a visit to BookShop West Portal to promote my new book, and a stop in Redwood City to visit an author friend who was having difficulty creating posts for his Facebook page. On the third Saturday, we had a wonderful celebration of my grand-daughter Penny’s second birthday. Oh, and Sunday was Father’s Day.
The last full week of June included Wednesday brunch at the Boulevard Café in Los Gatos and dinner that evening at Mio Vicino in Santa Clara to celebrate Kathy’s birthday. I also enjoyed an afternoon of live music and root beer floats with my Mom at her retirement community in Mountain View. On Thursday, I got together for lunch and conversation with one of my neighbors at a local café before heading over to San José International Airport to greet some of Kathy’s cousins who were arriving for the events of the weekend.
Now,… about the weekend… On Friday the 24th, we celebrated a memorial Mass for Kathy’s mother, who passed away at the end of April. This was followed by a well-attended reception of family and friends. Several of Kathy’s siblings came to our home for dinner that evening. On Saturday night, Kathy’s family gathered at the Aloft Hotel in San José to celebrate Kathy’s 65th birthday. The party had been planned prior to Norma’s death, so a decision was made to have the memorial Mass that same weekend, since cousins from Chicago and family members from Seattle and Eureka would be in town. It was a delightful party.
Following a much-needed day of rest on Sunday, Kathy and I took two Chicago cousins to The City on Monday to visit Pier 39, Fisherman’s Wharf, and Ghirardelli Square. We ended our day with a relaxing dinner at Santana Row in San José.
And yesterday, Kathy and I celebrated our 37th wedding anniversary with a nice dinner in downtown Campbell.
So yes, June was an enjoyable, but exhausting month. I’m grateful for the arrival of July. So far, I have only one commitment on my calendar for this new month, and that’s not until the 22nd. I know things will be added to my calendar as the month progresses, but, for now, I’m grateful to look ahead and see so much down time. I need it.
