"I don't get off on romantic parts.
But I often think if I'd had my
dental work done early on,
well, maybe."
Morgan Freeman
In 2004, I was informed that my dental hygienist would be leaving the office and moving to Florida. Rhonda had been my hygienist for thirteen years. To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. While I was happy for Rhonda, and for the opportunities that awaited her in the Sunshine State, I knew I would miss her dearly. Because of her, I actually looked forward to my regular visits to the dentist. Well, as they say, all good things must come to an end.
They, whoever “they” are, also say that when one door closes, another opens. We are warned that sometimes we look so long and regretfully upon the door that has closed that we fail to notice the one which has opened for us. This is exactly what happened at Willow Glen Dentistry. Yes, Rhonda was gone, but little did I know that her replacement, Leah, would provide the same level of professionalism and hospitality as I’d come to expect from Rhonda.
Leah began her work with Dr. John Pisacane, DMD, in 2004. During that time, I’d estimate that she cleaned my teeth more than fifty times. During the eighteen years which have passed since then, Leah and I have gotten to be good friends, as well. We’ve shared stories of the highs and lows of raising our children, our struggles with the educational systems with which we had to cope as parents, and our hopes and dreams for our kids. What began as a hygienist-patient relationship developed into much more. We even became Facebook friends a few years back.
Leah, her amazing husband, Jeff, and their three beautiful children will be moving to Nevada in the next few weeks. The myth of affordable housing in Silicon Valley is just that — a myth. In Nevada they were able to purchase a nice home on a large parcel of land. The new environment will serve them well as they move into this next phase of their lives.
Leah will be missed at Willow Glen Dentistry, but I’m grateful that she and I will be able to maintain contact through Facebook. I’ve never been to the Carson City area, and it’s a place I’ve always wanted to visit. Hopefully, in the not-too-distant future, Kathy and I will have the opportunity to venture up there for a visit.
I’m also confident that whoever replaces Leah at Willow Glen Dentistry will provide a comparable level of professionalism and hospitality for the next decade or two.
