What an awesome time of the year -- Autumn. Is it my favorite season? Well, it is at this time of the year. Cold, crisp mornings followed by sunny, warm afternoons create the perfect combination here in the Santa Clara Valley.
As I've written on this site before, I like all four seasons of the year, but there's a reason the seasons exist in the first place. Twelve months of any season would get old quickly. It's the changes in seasons that allow us to appreciate each season when its time comes. And now it is time to appreciate the season of Autumn.
To a limited extent, it's possible to enjoy the changing colors of the Autumn season here in Silicon Valley. The leaves on many different types of trees change colors prior to detaching themselves and falling to the ground. There's certainly no comparison to what one can see in the Northeast at this time of year, but the Fall colors in the South Bay are still worthy of notice and appreciation.
Growing up in San Francisco, I had few opportunities to see the change of seasons reflected in the trees. The types of trees which line Sunset Boulevard don't change colors. The same is true of the eucalyptus trees at the San Francisco Zoo. And 38th Avenue, like most streets in the Sunset District, had few, if any, trees. Here in San Jose, however, the variety of trees which line almost every street offer a spectacular array of colors.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to enjoy the season of Autumn. And while I can certainly enjoy what this season offers us here in the Santa Clara Valley, a trip to the New England States in November is near the top of my "bucket list."
